Amazon.com Review

This fun pineapple upside down cake pan from NordicWare's Platinum baking series transforms a classic dessert into cute individual servings. Parceled into six 3/4-cup molds, each one is shaped like a thick slice of pineapple complete with rough skin, spiky leaves, and juicy interior. Simply garnish the finished treats with a slice of Maui Gold pineapple and a maraschino cherry, and guests get instantly transported to a tropical paradise. Bakers will love the pan's heavyweight cast aluminum construction for its gentle, balanced heat heating that produces deliciously moist centers and lightly browned crusts. The vessel also features a nonstick interior for easy food release and a heat-reflective exterior to prevent edges from overcooking and burning. Especially durable and warp-resistant, every detail on the pan transfers beautifully to the baked good-so forget those boring round or square molds! Wide end handles and a narrow outside rim facilitates flipping and carrying. Measuring 14 by 9 by 2 inches, this pan is best washed by hand to ensure years of quality service. It is made in the USA and comes with a recipe and limited lifetime warranty. --Kara Karll

Heavy, non-stick pan that has nice detail in the pineapples. We've used it for both P/A upside down cake and quick bread. We found it is better to use about 2/3 C batter rather than the 3/4 C the directions state.

This is a great little pan for entertaining. Individual pineapple
upside down cakes, everyone gets their own. The pan is great; cooks
evenly and releases the cakes immediately. Just make sure there
is a cookie rack or dish to catch them as they fall out of the pan.

Usually Nordicware cake pans look as good as the finished product -- you can visualize the end result, but this pan is the exception. By itself, the pan is rather unattractive but once the butter, brown sugar, pineapple slice and cherry are added to the bottom of each individual compartment, the little cakes come to life. These look so great on a large platter whether for a special treat to liven up a boring week or for a full-blown party.

I spray the pan with Baker's Joy -- a cooking spray made for baking that contains a little flour. And, if the cakes puff up too much during baking, just take a bread knife and cut them straight across the top (will be the bottom) after they've cooled for ten minutes or so while they are still in the pan. Then they will sit perfectly flat on the plate when inverted and removed from the pan. With a little care the pans will last a life-time, just avoid using metal utensils or harsh scrub pads on the pan.

These cakes are so... Read more
