By itself, the pan is rather unattractive but once the butter, brown sugar, pineapple slice and cherry are added to the bottom of each individual compartment, the little cakes come to life. These look so great on a large platter whether for a special treat to liven up a boring week or for a full-blown party. I spray the pan with Baker's Joy -- a cooking spray made for baking that contains a little flour. And, if the cakes puff up too much during baking, just take a bread knife and cut them straight across the top (will be the bottom) after they've cooled for ten minutes or so while they are still in the pan. Then they will sit perfectly flat on the plate when inverted and removed from the pan.
